Mephistophilis is the opposite of Faustus. Mephistophilis is a stereotype in the typical conniving Devil's helper. He is always pressuring Faustus to listen to his " poor angel" and act upon his desires instead of his intellect. Mephistophilis' personality influences the entire plot as well, but in a different way than Faustus'. His personality influences everything Faustus truly does. He will whatever it takes to keep Faustus in trusting that sinning is good also it influences Faustus' decisions and options. Mephistophilis is very aware about what's going on around him; he does not miss a detail. For this reason he knows how to manipulate people, especially Faustus, into providing him what he would like.

The discussion in this play is more the thoughts of the characters instead of their genuine words.
